Design Options

We offer two basic design options, although customized requests are welcomed and usually possible.
All quilts are constructed with a border to frame the t-shirts.

Any number of t-shirts can be used in a quilt.

Standard design: All shirts are cut the same size and arranged in a grid pattern with sashing between the shirts and a border around the quilt. The blocks are figured on a 14" square, with or without cornerstones, (the contrasting squares where the block corners meet.). (click on either photo for a larger view)

Custom design: This design is used when your t-shirt collection is small or if shirts vary in size. The blocks will vary in size. Sashing and border are included and may vary in size as well. (click on the thumbnail for a larger view)

Designs may vary depending on your wishes.

Pam made a quilt for me created from favorite t-shirts of my son. We even appliqued an infant t-shirt in one of the squares. Pam is as good about articulating her craft as she is in executing her craft. She was able to give me an excellent verbal description of how the finished quilt would look and was very detailed oriented and creative as she made suggestions about the design.

When I saw the quilt, it was even better than I imagined. It brought tears to my eyes. And my grown son laughed in delight when he saw it. It was a big hit! Now, Pam has two more quilts to make for my two other sons...

Personal treasures such as a favorite baby blanket or article of clothing can be incorporated into the quilt as well. Contact us to discuss your wishes and we can plan a design together that will meet your needs based on the number of t-shirts and treasures you have.

There may be an extra charge for custom work depending on the request.

Fabric and color choices:
Premium 100% cotton fabric is best for the life of your t-shirt quilt.

Cotton flannel is our favorite to work with for the softness and added visual texture it provides after it's quilted.

We do not charge extra for flannel and it makes a cozy backing for the quilt. It just depends on the look and feel you want. With a t-shirt collection you often have quite a variety of shirt colors.We recommend a sashing color that will not compete with the t-shirts but rather complement and contrast with them so that the t-shirts are the main attraction. Typically, our t-shirt quilts use two fabric colors. We will choose colors that complement your t-shirts or leave it up to you.
